Thal embodies the ancient magic of the pagan past. He challenges a world conquered by a spiritual system that denies the flesh and forgets the Earth.
Although wanted for Devil worship and shape shifting, he still boldly walks the streets of 16th century Prague. Jesuits hunt him. Mercenaries fear him. Musicians sing his praise, and women are captivated by his alpha swagger.
Born of a witch and a sorcerer, he is summoned when his desperate mother casts the werewolf spell before facing torture and execution. Burdened with her magical call for vengeance Thal seeks the men that killed her. His hunt is complicated when the Magistrate’s stepdaughter Altea Kardas crosses his path. Horrified that her community is burning women to death, she can confide her doubt and fear only to Thal.
He desires her greatly but knows he will bring ruin upon her. Across Bohemia and beyond people who are different are labeled heretics in a restless world hobbled by tyrannical ignorance. The Renaissance has thrown the Holy Roman Empire into turmoil. Printed books are spreading radical ideas. Firearms are triggering a new age of warfare. And the human spirit is shaking off obedience.
He awakens within Altea recognition of these truths. She believes any risk is worth loving him until she becomes the bait in a trap set by Thal’s enemies.

I am sick of the same old werewolf stories so this was a refreshing change for me. Set in 1500's Prague, the werelord Thal is in search of his past that he can't remember since he was stuck in the body of a wolf for so long. The setting and time period worked well for me with the realistic premise of witch hunters causing danger for Thal and others like him. The story ended without revealing some of the secrets so I'm hoping there is a sequel because I wanted to know more about Thal's mysterious father and more about Thal's origins. Highly recommended to fans of werewolf tales.Product details

Werelord Thal A Renaissance Werewolf Tale Werewolves in the Renaissance Book 1 eBook Tracy Falbe Reviews
Much different than most novels of this genre. I found the historical woven into the present of the hero very well done, with a complexity that will satisfy any follower of werewolf / scifi writings. Descriptions of the times are very well done as you find yourself drifting into the times and action that soon surrounds you. 4 1/2 Stars which would have been 5 if not for the spelling and grammatical / composition errors. Well done Ms. Falbe
Werelord Thal is a fascinating tale written with a rich, detailed sense of setting. The research the author did is most impressive and she immerses the reader in the sights and sounds of Renaissance Prague, from the town to the forest to the dungeon. The setting is definitely a strong point of the tale. Thal himself is an interesting character as he discovers his heritage and truths about his werewolf nature, but I was more drawn to the struggles of Altea as a maiden in her stepfather's house and her trials at the hands of the witch-hunters. The author's style is vivid and descriptive, but sometimes the many similes and metaphors can be a bit distracting. Overall, I enjoyed this Renaissance werewolf tale and give a lot of kudos to the author for her authentic crafting of the historical setting.
This tale is written in a very vivid manner, while portraying the entire story in a realistic light. Although supernatural in essence, Falbe tells her story in a way that seems plausible if not downright possible. Falbe has the beliefs of the time period in question very firmly placed within her novel. It makes for a very haunting yet authentic read. She builds her world in a variety of different shades. In my mind, I found myself picturing blacks and greys and browns. It was a very unique experience.
I found that the characters in this novel, although very well developed and approachable as individuals, were rather difficult to identify with. It made it difficult to fully immerse myself in the story. I felt like I was an observer rather than a participant in the tale. I also had to question some elements of the characters development, for example, where did the were come from? He had no backstory what-so-ever.
As a whole this was an intriguing tale with some truly enchanting & haunting moments. It would be a brilliant read for those who enjoy the mixing of history with the supernatural.
Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.
a good read
This was a great read. It was just a little different than I usually choose.
